📌 MAROKO133 Breaking ai: China’s lighter, unmanned Type 100 tank ups the ante in b
China is shifting towards “intelligent, information-driven and unmanned” warfare, with its new Type 100 tank, a report from the South China Morning Post reveals.
The Type 100 tank, revealed at the Victory Day parade in Beijing, is a departure from traditional armored vehicle design. In designing the lightweight tank, the People’s Liberation Army reportedly prioritized the integration of intelligent systems.
This is in response to the increased automation of warfare and the rising threat of unmanned drones on the battlefield, as seen in the war in Ukraine.
The Type 100: When information trumps armor
The Type 100 is powered by a diesel-electric hybrid power system that provides improved mobility while producing less noise. It is smaller and lighter than the previous generation: the Type 99, which entered service in 2001.
The new tank is equipped with a 105 mm main gun, instead of the more standard 125mm. The unmanned turret is operated using an advanced fire control system.
Instead of featuring heavier armor, the Type 100’s design is centered on intelligent systems. The tank features radars, infrared, and laser warning systems capable of detecting incoming threats and deploying interceptor rockets, jammer grenades or laser beams. AI systems also allow for better situational awareness and networked firepower coordination. The Type 100 can also deploy a small multi-rotor reconnaissance drone to provide an aerial view.
The tank’s crew will be able to visualize much of this data in real-time via augmented reality helmets. The crew will also be able to experience a 360-degree view of their surroundings using the helmets. The Type 100 will be able to function with and without a crew.
The Type 100 and its support vehicles will “totally revolutionize future land battles”, military mouthpiece PLA Daily stated on Thursday.
“[The new tanks] are capable of approaching the enemy in silence in specific environments,” Wang Qun, a crew member of one of the new tanks in the parade, told state broadcaster CCTV after last week’s Victory Day parade, as per SCMP.
The M1E3: The US’s answer to the Type 100
The US Military provided updates on a new tank of its own at last week’s Association of the United States Army (AUSA) conference in Washington, D.C.
The M1E3 will be a successor to the current M1 Abrams. Much like the Type 100, the new iteration will be a lighter tank, with more emphasis on its data-heavy defensive systems.
The M1E3 version of Abrams will feature a hybrid electric propulsion powertrain for better fuel efficiency. According to a report from The War Zone, the M1E3 could also deploy small drones and other unmanned aerial systems to hit targets beyond its line of sight.
However, Beijing has imposed export controls on the advanced lithium batteries. These batteries are critical for powering the next-generation military systems, like the M1E3. Therefore, the export control could create a significant and immediate supply challenge for the US tank’s development timeline.
The gamification of war
The Type 100’s AR and AI functionalities are in keeping with the dystopian trend towards utilizing innovative technologies to “gamify” warfare.
As reported by the SCMP, the CCTV story stated that the AR helmets will give the tank driver a “video game-like view” with vehicle telemetry on one side of the screen and a battlefield map on the other.
Global military leaders have echoed this unironic call for gamified battle technologies in recent months and years.
Mykhailo Fedorov, for example, a minister in the wartime government of Ukraine, recently showcased the country’s point tally system. As reported by TIME, this system rewards Ukrainian soldiers with points for individual kills.
A 2024 report stated that the US military is projected to invest more than $26 billion annually into gamification and simulation training by the year 2028.

📌 MAROKO133 Breaking ai: Astronomer Suspects Mysterious Object Is Up to No Good Wh
Interstellar object 3I/ATLAS is expected to reach its perihelion, or the closest point to the Sun in its highly eccentric path through our solar system, on October 29. Earlier this week, it reached its solar conjunction, meaning it’s on the exact opposite side of the Sun relative to Earth.
And while scientists have gathered significant evidence that the unusual visitor from another star system is a comet, largely made up of carbon dioxide ice, Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb hasn’t given up his suspicion that it’s instead an enormous “mothership” that was sent to us by an intelligent extraterrestrial civilization.
Loeb has repeatedly pointed out all of the object’s “anomalies,” from its enormous suspected size to its unusual trajectory that took it suspiciously close to Mars earlier this month.
In a new blog post, Loeb suggested that if 3I/ATLAS were to be a spacecraft, it may use its proximity to the Sun’s powerful gravitational pull to either accelerate or slow itself down — while conveniently hiding behind our star.
“If you want to take a vacation, take it before [October 29], because who knows what will happen?” Loeb told science communicator and author Mayim Bialik in a September interview.
Loeb pointed to one of the most important dynamics in space travel to support his theory that 3I/ATLAS — if it’s indeed a spacecraft — may use its perihelion to boost its velocity.
“As a result of this so-called Oberth effect, it is most energy-efficient for a spacecraft engine to burn its fuel when its orbital velocity is greatest,” Loeb explained, referring to a physics principle which determines that a rocket engine generates more energy when it’s fired at a higher speed.
The astronomer reiterated his hypothesis that the object may release smaller probes to get a better understanding of our neighborhood.
“If 3I/ATLAS is a massive mothership, it will likely continue along its original gravitational path and ultimately exit the Solar system,” he added. “In that case, the Oberth maneuver might apply to the mini-probes it releases at perihelion towards Solar system planets.”
According to Loeb, the “optimal time” to adjust its velocity is its perihelion next week. However, to him, the timing raises even more tantalizing questions.
“This opportune time happens to be during the same period when it is hidden from view to Earth-based telescopes,” he posited. “Was this a mere coincidence or a result of orbital design and basic astronautics?”
Loeb’s hypothesis that 3I/ATLAS was sent to us by an alien civilization has prompted plenty of skepticism. Members of the scientific community have repeatedly thrown cold water on Loeb’s eyebrow-raising idea.
“It looks like a comet,” Tom Statler, NASA’s lead scientist for solar system small bodies, told The Guardian last month. “It does comet things. It very, very strongly resembles, in just about every way, the comets that we know.”
“It’s a comet,” he concluded at the time, while still conceding that it has “some interesting properties that are a little bit different from our solar system comets.”
However, while even Loeb recently admitted that there’s only a slim chance that 3I/ATLAS was technological in origin, the astronomer isn’t giving up hope.
“Science is guided by evidence and not by expectations,” he wrote in his latest blog. “We can find the answer to the above question by monitoring the sky during November and December 2025, and searching for any unusual activity of 3I/ATLAS or any new objects that came out of it.”
“As of now, 3I/ATLAS appears most likely to be a natural comet,” Loeb added. “But the remote possibility of an Oberth maneuver must be considered seriously as a black swan event with a small probability, because of its huge implications for humanity.”
