She noted that right-to-publicity and defamation laws vary across states and may not always cover deepfakes.

Estates and families push back

Following public criticism, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that rights holders will soon need to opt in for AI likeness use rather than being included by default. Yet many families remain unhappy.
