📌 MAROKO133 Eksklusif ai: Government Investigating Nearly Three Million Self-Drivi

Is it a good sign that Tesla keeps getting probed by regulators because its self-driving cars are horrible drivers?

You’ll never guess the reason we’re asking.

On Thursday, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it’s launching an investigation into 2.88 million Tesla cars with its dubiously labeled “Full Self-Driving” mode, after receiving reports of the vehicles blowing off traffic laws and getting into crashes, Reuters reports.

It’s another bump in the road for the Elon Musk-led automaker, which has struggled to perfect its self-driving tech for years, putting itself under even more pressure to deliver by launching a limited “Robotaxi” service this summer.

According to Reuters, the regulator is reviewing 58 reports of a Tesla running FSD appearing to violate traffic laws. Of the incidents, 14 involved crashes and 23 involved injuries.

In six of these crashes, FSD “approached an intersection with a red traffic signal, continued to travel into the intersection against the red light and was subsequently involved in a crash with other motor vehicles in the intersection,” the NHTSA said, per Reuters.

In 2024, one Houston driver complained to the agency that FSD “is not recognizing traffic signals,” causing it to run through red lights and stop at green lights.

“Tesla doesn’t want to fix it, or even acknowledge the problem,” the driver vented, “even though they’ve done a test drive with me and seen the issue with their own eyes.”

The agency is also reviewing another shocking habit of the driving software that’s recently gotten more attention: driving straight into oncoming trains, and otherwise going haywire at railroad crossings.

This comes as Tesla is already mired in numerous legal battles and official inquiries. The NHTSA has already been investigating Tesla’s less advanced driving system, Autopilot, for over a year. In August, a jury ordered Tesla to pay $329 million in damages after a car running Autopilot struck and killed a woman, finding it to be partially responsible for the deadly accident.

It’s also conducting another investigation in FSD, which it launched last October. That probe is investigating several crashes that involved poor visibility conditions. Footage of one of the incidents showed FSD’s camera obscured by sunlight before the car plowed into an elderly woman on the side of the road, killing her.

Meanwhile, its lackluster Robotaxi service, which is currently a limited operation in Austin, almost immediately drew scrutiny from the NHTSA after passenger videos showed the self-driving cabs — which come with a human “safety monitor” sitting shotgun — careening over the speed limit and driving erratically.

Adding to the pile, Tesla is embroiled in legal issues with California regulators. The state DMV sued Tesla for false advertising because of FSD’s misleading branding, since, despite being called “Full Self-Driving,” the software can’t fully drive by itself and requires constant human supervision to avoid getting into accidents. Last year, Tesla added “(Supervised)” to the driving mode’s official name.

The false advertising suit also focuses on statements made by Musk, who has a proclivity for making improbable promises and overblowing the capabilities of his products. He has long openly stated that Tesla cars can “drive themselves,” while promising that fully autonomous driving is right around the corner.

As it stands, this latest investigation from the NHTSA is at a preliminary stage, but a recall could follow if it concludes that the cars are a safety risk. And, like, come on.

📌 MAROKO133 Breaking ai: Seaweed-powered menstrual cup makes period care smarter,

In a breakthrough that could reshape menstrual health and diagnostics, researchers at McMaster University have unveiled a next-generation menstrual cup designed to make periods safer, easier, and smarter.

The innovation is part of a growing effort to merge menstrual care with wearable health technology, turning everyday products into tools for early disease detection and better reproductive health monitoring.

At the heart of the breakthrough is a flushable seaweed-based tablet, described in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, that can be inserted into an existing menstrual cup.

The tablet is highly absorbent, helping hold menstrual blood in place and reduce spills, which is one of the biggest challenges users face when removing menstrual cups.

This addition complements the Bfree Cup, made from lubricant-infused silicone that naturally repels viruses and bacteria, eliminating the need for boiling between uses.

Together, the two components promise a more hygienic, user-friendly, and sustainable alternative to traditional menstrual products.

Reimagining period care

“This project opened my eyes to how urgently innovation is needed in menstrual care,” says Zeinab Hosseinidoust, an associate professor of biomedical and chemical engineering and co-lead researcher on the team.

“There’s been little movement in the conversation around menstrual care. Some of that is due to stigma and some is lack of interest, but cups have the potential to make a serious difference in the lives of women around the world.”

The project was developed in collaboration with Leisa Hirtz, founder of Women’s Global Health Innovations, who approached the McMaster researchers to improve her company’s Bfree Cup technology.

“Menstrual health is a critical issue for millions of girls and women, particularly those living in poverty in low- and middle-income countries, where access to safe and dignified products remains a barrier to education, employment, and social participation. This innovation builds on Bfree Cup’s proven technology to support wider adoption and reduce period poverty. The current research also opens the door to advanced diagnostic capabilities that could transform how we monitor and manage women’s reproductive health globally,” Hirtz says.

Beyond convenience and hygiene, the researchers say the new design could significantly reduce the environmental impact of disposable products. Each cup can last several years, a sustainable, cost-effective solution for communities with limited access to menstrual care.

From hygiene to health tech

The team envisions future versions of the menstrual cup equipped with biosensors to detect early signs of infections and blood-borne illnesses, transforming the cup into a proactive health monitor.

“This could be a new form of wearable technology that could be even more valuable than a smartwatch,” says associate professor of mechanical and bioengineering Tohid Didar, who co-led the research.

“We have mainly been reactive in terms of women’s health. This can give us an opportunity to start being proactive. If we can add simple systems to menstrual products to monitor for infections and conditions, such as endometriosis and UTIs, we could find these problems much sooner. There is a lot to explore in this area.”

The McMaster team’s broader research highlights how integrating biosensors, wearables, and AI could revolutionize diagnostics for women’s health — from reproductive conditions to cancer and osteoporosis.

“Our review underscores how recent advances in biosensors, wearables, and AI can close critical gaps in women’s health diagnostics, from reproductive care to cancer and osteoporosis,” says Wei Gao, professor of Engineering and Applied Science at Caltech.

The findings have been in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces.
